By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WestRock Hopewell Mill 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, the WestRock Hopewell Mill opened its doors in 1923, employing Virginians from across central Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Mill, now under the operations of WestRock Company, produces containerboard primarily using virgin fiber sourced from private landowners in our Commonwealth, in addition to recovered and recycled fiber; and

WHEREAS, WestRock is a leader in sustainable, fiber-based packaging products; and

WHEREAS, WestRock employs over 2,600 Virginians across nine facilities throughout the Commonwealth – including more than 300 employees at the Hopewell Mill; and

WHEREAS, WestRock and the Hopewell Mill contribute significantly to Virginia’s economy, including utilizing natural resources harvested by our robust forestry industry; and

WHEREAS, on this occasion of the 100th year of WestRock Hopewell Mill operations, the Commonwealth celebrates the mill’s thousands of current and former employees and WestRock’s ongoing commitment to Virginia; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 10, 2023, as a day to honor the 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WESTROCK HOPEWELL MILL in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
