By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Fatherhood Week

WHEREAS, it is important for Virginia to celebrate the unique bond between father and child and honor the dedication to family and community fathers exemplify as they raise their children; and

WHEREAS, with fatherhood comes great responsibility, as fathers are a major influence in their child's upbringing and are instrumental in helping their children develop character and reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, fathers play an important role in demonstrating integrity and respectful relationships, whether with mothers, family members, or others in the community, as they raise their children to be kind, honest, self-sufficient, and responsible citizens; and

WHEREAS, whether as an equal part of the family unit alongside a mother or a partner, or as the sole responsible figure, fathers are essential and valuable providers, role models, confidants, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Virginia pays special tribute to fathers serving overseas in the Armed Forces who will not be able to share this Father's Day with their families; and

WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes individuals, as well as faith-based and community organizations, that celebrate and promote responsible fatherhood along with the many volunteers who help men be the dads, husbands, and co-parents that their children, spouses, and partners need and deserve; and

WHEREAS, fatherhood is a year-round, daily occupation which our Commonwealth has commemorated in honor of the personal and professional sacrifices made by fathers for the love of their children and families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 12-18, 2023, as VIRGINIA FATHERHOOD WEEK in our Commonwealth of Virginia, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
