By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Save-A-Life Week

WHEREAS, the American Heart Association and other reputable organizations emphasize the critical importance of immediate and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) use in saving lives during cardiac emergencies; and

WHEREAS, cardiac arrest incidents are time-sensitive, and the swift response of individuals certified in CPR/AED significantly increases the chances of survival and minimizes the risk of long-term neurological damage; and

WHEREAS, training and certification in CPR/AED equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and respond to life-threatening situations, thereby promoting a safer and more prepared community; and

WHEREAS, the opioid epidemic has become a pressing public health concern, and the administration of naloxone, an opioid antagonist, by trained individuals can rapidly reverse opioid overdoses, prevent fatalities, and provide an essential tool in combating the opioid crisis; and

WHEREAS, individuals certified in both CPR/AED and the administration of naloxone possess a comprehensive set of life-saving skills making them valuable contributors to community safety and well-being; and

WHEREAS, promoting widespread awareness and education on the benefits of CPR/AED certification and naloxone administration is essential to building a resilient and responsive society capable of effectively addressing medical emergencies and saving lives;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize April 1-5, 2024, as SAVE-A-LIFE WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
