By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Roanoke Community Beautification Day

WHEREAS, the Roanoke community, its neighborhoods, schools, civic groups, and businesses strive to preserve and improve upon the community's charm, character, and natural beauty; and

WHEREAS, beautification efforts are vital to improving the quality of life for Roanoke’s citizens, attracting tourism, aiding in recruiting new industries, and inspiring entrepreneurial activities; and

WHEREAS, National Roanoke Community Beautification Day is an annual event that commenced in 2020; and

WHEREAS, National Roanoke Community Beautification Day was founded by Aldrica Lattimore, President of the Virginia Diverse Chamber of Commerce, in honor of her father Albert Edwards, a Roanoke native and veteran born in 1936; and

WHEREAS, National Roanoke Community Beautification Day is a registered holiday and is a day for Southwest Virginia residents, families, and visitors to come together to combat blight in communities by helping to revitalize neighborhoods and beautify homes, parks, and communities for a better Roanoke; and

WHEREAS, each year on National Roanoke Community Beautification Day, hundreds of volunteers come together to impact the entire community by revitalizing a block of homes for veterans, seniors, and disabled residents, and a park in an underserved community in Roanoke, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, citizens, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to help make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family by supporting Roanoke Community Beautification Day in its efforts to beautify and revitalize communities in Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 29, 2023, as ROANOKE COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
