By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

National Hire a Veteran Day

WHEREAS, in 2017, as a call to action, National Hire a Veteran Day was established; and

WHEREAS, the goal of National Hire a Veteran Day is to encourage the recruitment and hiring of veterans whose unique skills, and specialized expertise can create a diverse and high-performing workforce; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 690,000 veterans across the Commonwealth, the 6th largest population of veterans in the nation; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 107,000 women veterans across the Commonwealth, the highest percentage of women veterans to total population of veterans in the nation; and

WHEREAS, more than 20,000 service members are estimated to leave service in Virginia annually; and

WHEREAS, Virginia employers realize a tremendous benefit by hiring veterans; and

WHEREAS, thousands of Virginia employers have demonstrated their support of hiring veterans by joining the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services; and

WHEREAS, in Virginia, we take great pride in being the most veteran-friendly state in the nation for veterans to live, work, and raise a family;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 25, 2023, as NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
