By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Montessori Education Week

WHEREAS, through her observational studies of children and their learning styles, Dr. Maria Montessori developed an innovative philosophy of education in the early 1900s that continues to impact education across the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation and the world; and, 

WHEREAS, a method of education based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play, the Montessori Method allows students to learn and grow at their own pace in an environment designed to nurture the needs of each child, as well as maximize their potential; and, 

WHEREAS, the Montessori program, available to children from birth to eighteen years, uses materials, techniques and observations that support a student’s natural development, encourages their learning, independence and self-confidence while promoting peace through responsible citizenship; and, 

WHEREAS, on this 115th anniversary of Montessori Education, we recognize the educators, students, parents and communities who contribute greatly to educational success in our commonwealth. Likewise, we appreciate the Virginia Montessori Association for bringing the Virginia Montessori community together and promoting excellence in this area of education;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize February 20-26 as MONTESSORI EDUCATION WEEK, and I call our citizens to recognize the valuable contributions of Montessori education to students in the commonwealth.
