By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Marine Corps Marathon Day

WHEREAS, the 48th Marine Corps Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, this annual endurance event hosted by the United States Marine Corps is a display of honor, courage, and commitment; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is proud to welcome each of the 30,000 runners participating in the 26.2-mile Marine Corps Marathon, the MCM10K or the MCM50K, the largest ultra in the United States; and

WHEREAS, runners begin and complete their running journeys in Arlington, Virginia, with on-course landmarks such as Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, and the iconic Marine Corps War Memorial, where United States Marines proudly present each finisher with an eagle, globe, and anchor medal; and

WHEREAS, this annual event is an international display of freedom and endurance with marathon, 10K and endurance runners, spectators, and volunteers from each state and every corner of the world; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia acknowledges, with appreciation, the courageous efforts of our United States Marine Corps and all brave men and women in uniform who defend our nation and freedoms; and

WHEREAS, citizens are encouraged to find inspiration in the fortitude of the Marine Corps Marathon participants today and those serving in our armed forces every day;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 29, 2023, as MARINE CORPS MARATHON DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
