Manufacturing Day

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Manufacturing Day

WHEREAS, one of the fundamental strengths of Virginia's economy is its vibrant and globally competitive manufacturers; and

WHEREAS, manufacturing creates state and local wealth by adding value to raw materials through the application of people's skills and the substantial investment in technology, tools, and energy; and

WHEREAS, manufacturing contributes $49 billion to gross state product, accounts for $13 billion of the Commonwealth’s goods exports to the global economy, and employs more than 247,000 of Virginia's private workers at nearly 7,000 establishments; and

WHEREAS, the average annual compensation for a manufacturing job is over $75,000; and

WHEREAS, manufacturers’ bold response to our Commonwealth’s critical infrastructure needs remains essential to our future safety and security; and

WHEREAS, manufacturers are labor-intensive, technology-intensive, energy-intensive, and depend upon economical costs to successfully compete against global and domestic manufacturers; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to supporting our manufacturers, encouraging their growth and prosperity, and raising public awareness to Inspire the Next Generation of Manufacturers;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 6, 2023, as MANUFACTURING DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
