By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Love for Virginia Beach Day

WHEREAS, four years ago on the afternoon of May 31, 2019, a senseless and unfathomable tragedy struck the Virginia Beach Municipal Center and the Virginia Beach area; and

WHEREAS, the lives of twelve members of the Virginia Beach community were taken without warning, creating an everlasting void in the hearts and minds of peers, friends, and family who feel their absence every day; and

WHEREAS, five others were injured, four critically, and many more were seriously impacted, including people who worked in Building Two of the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, family members, friends, city employees and members of the Virginia Beach community and beyond who demonstrated compassion and generosity; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the greater Virginia Beach community join with those from across the country in offering continued thoughts and prayers to remember and honor the cherished memories of those who lost their lives, were wounded, and those whose lives were forever changed; and

WHEREAS, the twelve lives lost so suddenly four years ago will forever be remembered, and we continue to pray for all who were traumatized by this brutal act of violence; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Beach community and the Commonwealth are forever changed but resilient, pledging to honor those we lost through acts of kindness and service;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 31, 2023, as LOVE FOR VIRGINIA BEACH DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
