By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Great Outdoors Month

WHEREAS, Virginia embraces and accommodates all kinds of outdoor lovers from mountain biking, hiking, hunting, rafting, horse riding, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, running, kayaking, fishing, boating, and many more outdoor activities; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s outdoor recreation industry is an economic driver that contributes $9.4 billion annually to the state economy and employs more than 106,000 Virginians; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s Land Preservation Tax Credit has led to the permanent protection of over 1 million acres of land in Virginia, increasing access to nature and historic sites, providing clean air and safe drinking water, and making Virginia a national leader in land conservation; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is home to 41 beautiful state parks, 66 state natural area preserves, numerous national parks and wildlife refuges, state and national forests, and countless historic sites, all providing opportunities to experience the outdoors; and

WHEREAS, the outdoors improves the quality of life in Virginia supporting physical wellness in our communities and making Virginia a great place to live, work, and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, during Great Outdoors Month and throughout the year, citizens are encouraged to get outside and experience everything Virginia has to offer;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 2023, as GREAT OUTDOORS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
