By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Gastroparesis Awareness Month

WHEREAS, gastroparesis is a chronic illness that means "paralysis of the stomach" which can cause debilitating pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and can lead to serious complications such as malnourishment, dehydration, extreme weight loss, and overwhelming fatigue; and

WHEREAS, gastroparesis is a chronic medical condition that can impair the quality of life and well-being of patients; and

WHEREAS, there is little awareness, no known cure, and few effective treatment options; and

WHEREAS, gastroparesis awareness advocates seek more research, improved medications, additional treatment options, better support, and hope for the future; and

WHEREAS, gastroparesis awareness advocates seek to educate the medical community and the public regarding the effects of this disorder and promote awareness of the condition;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize August 2023, as GASTROPARESIS AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
