By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Bradley Free Clinic 50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic began providing free healthcare to the underserved members of the Roanoke Community on October 15, 1974, and the clinic has provided no-cost healthcare to over 150,000 people over the course of its 50-year history; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic was the second free and charitable clinic established in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of the original 15 free clinics to receive accreditation from the Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics in June 2009; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic provides no-cost medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services to eligible patients through the generosity of volunteer healthcare providers; and

WHEREAS, President George H.W. Bush designated Bradley Free Clinic as a Presidential Point of Light in 1990; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic has been a training site for medical students and residents, dental students, physical therapy students, dental hygiene students, pharmacy interns, psychiatry residents, and counseling interns throughout much of its 50-year history, exposing them to the needs of the underserved members of the community; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic has served as the home of the HOPE Initiative since its founding in 2016 as a collaborative effort between local law enforcement, healthcare systems, treatment and recovery agencies, and safety net organizations to assist individuals battling any form of substance use disorder; and

WHEREAS, the Hope Initiative not only lights the path to recovery for individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorders, but it provides education, resources, and training to the community including free REVIVE! training to administer the overdose reversal drug Naloxone; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic, its leadership, operations and medical staff, and volunteers, past and present, are celebrated for providing 50 years of compassionate, high-quality, and transformational care to the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Free Clinic and the Hope Initiative’s outstanding contributions and commitment to the community strengthen the Spirit of Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize the 50th ANNIVERSARY OF BRADLEY FREE CLINIC in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
