Amateur Radio Operator Recognition Days

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, during times of national, state, and local emergencies, and for community and public events, amateur radio operators provide communication resources at no cost to people across Virginia; and

WHEREAS, amateur radio organizations, including the Amateur Radio Emergency Services, are trained to provide effective emergency communication and support during times of emergency or disaster; and

WHEREAS, amateur operators trained in spotting and reporting severe weather assist the National Weather Service and the Commonwealth of Virginia through the SKYWARN program; and

WHEREAS, amateur radio clubs throughout the Commonwealth provide courses of instruction and assist elementary and high school students on amateur radio operations, enhancing student interest in science, geography, and physics, and providing opportunities for students to become licensed amateur radio operators;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 24-25, 2023, as AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR RECOGNITION DAYS in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
