By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

248th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps

WHEREAS, on November 10, 1775, the United States Continental Marines were founded by our nation’s leaders to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, provide shipboard security and discipline enforcement, and assist in landing forces; and

WHEREAS, for 248 years, members of our United States Marine Corps have served with the utmost courage in almost every conflict that our country has faced; and

WHEREAS, today, Marines are forward deployed around the globe maintaining a high level of operational readiness and prepared to defend our national interest whenever and wherever needed; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is proud to be home to more than 26,000 Marines and their families stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Headquarters Marine Corps, the Pentagon, and other locations throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the men and women serving in the United States Marine Corps and the families who support them make great sacrifices in defense of our nation; and

WHEREAS, today, we celebrate the continued strength, professionalism, and valor of our ready and resilient Marines in the all-volunteer force, and observe November 10 as the birthday of the United States Marine Corps;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize November 10, 2023, as the 248th BIRTHDAY OF THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
