2017 Virginia State Employee Health and Fitness Day


WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has long promoted the benefits of physical activity for state employees; and

WHEREAS, for over 30 years, the CommonHealth wellness program has raised awareness with state employees about the physical and fiscal benefits of establishing and maintaining healthy habits at work; and

WHEREAS, approximately 92,600 state employees are eligible for healthy lifestyle programs through their state health plans; and

WHEREAS, CommonHealth programs help motivate employees by demonstrating the importance of exercise, nutrition and healthy habits to improve overall health; and

WHEREAS, these programs result in increased morale, greater productivity, fewer illnesses, lower stress, reduced absenteeism, and the potential for fewer medical and workers’ compensation claims; and

 WHEREAS, Virginia State Employee Health and Fitness Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of the Commonwealth to better employee health and well-being;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 8, 2017, as VIRGINIA STATE EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND FITNESS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
