YMCA Healthy Kids Day


WHEREAS, the YMCA is a cause-driven organization that strengthens communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility; and

WHEREAS, the 29corporateYMCAs throughout Virginia are dedicated to providing programs and services to more than 560,000 young people and adults; and 

WHEREAS, community based responses are vital to combating obesity and physical inactivity, and achievement gaps in education; and 

WHEREAS, YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families, and help create a healthier summer for kids; and 

WHEREAS, summer is the time for children to “get up, get out and grow,” and to participate in activities that stimulate the body and mind; and 

WHEREAS, YMCA Healthy Kids Day celebrates children’s health by educating families on healthy habits, encouraging active play, and inspiring a lifetime love of physical activity; and 

WHEREAS, on April 26, 2014, YMCA locations across Virginia will sponsor YMCA Healthy Kids Day to motivate youth to lead a fun and active summer, and to ensure that they continue to achieve year round and reach their full potential;   

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 26, 2014, as YMCA HEALTHY KIDS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
