Women in Cybersecurity Day


WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes its vital role in identifying, protecting, and responding to cyber threats to ensure individual and collective security and privacy; and

WHEREAS, information technology is integral to teaching and learning, research, outreach, and service at educational institutions; and

WHEREAS, women play a vital role in the development and enhancement of technology and cyber security; and

WHEREAS, diversity plays a major role in securing our critical infrastructure and ensuring that new ideas, concepts, and perspectives are constantly being explored to protect and defend our nation’s information systems; and

WHEREAS, women are helping pave the way for younger generations by mentoring, teaching, and encouraging growth in careers related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields; and

WHEREAS, women are continuing to pursue college degrees, advanced training, and other professional careers in cyber security and other technology related fields to improve our vision of the future;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize August 8, 2015, as WOMEN IN CYBERSECUIRTY DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
