Women and Girls' Wellness Month 2016


WHEREAS, women and girls comprise more than half of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s total population; and 

WHEREAS, many wellness issues are of special concern to women, such as breast cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, reproductive health, mental health, and domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, it is important for girls to learn and cultivate healthy lifestyles at a young age so as to increase their likelihood of living productive and healthy lives; and

WHEREAS, a multitude of Virginia-based organizations offer gender-specific programs and services that benefit female health, including the many that collaborate with the Women’s Health Virginia Network to promote female wellness; and

WHEREAS, women and girls’ health is essential to the continued happiness and prosperity of Virginia and all of its citizens;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 2016 as WOMEN AND GIRLS’ WELLNESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
