Virginia Veteran and Family Support Day

WHEREAS,  the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program, of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, monitors and coordinates behavioral health services and support through an integrated, comprehensive and responsive system of care for Virginia’s veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program is recognized across the Commonwealth and the nation as a model program, providing a safety net of healthcare and community support services for veterans, members of the Virginia National Guard and Reserves not in active federal service and their families; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program, which originated as the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program, celebrates its seventh year of operation, having provided 30,000 services to veterans and service members since being established; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program has led the way in Virginia’s commitment to end veteran homelessness; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program hosts state of the art resilience skills building retreats for veterans and families coping with the impact of military transition, deployment, and behavioral health concerns; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program enhances the New Virginia Economy by educating employers about military cultural competency and service connected disabilities; and

WHEREAS,  the Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program employees and partners work together each day throughout our Commonwealth caring for those in need and reaffirming the Commonwealth’s commitment to being the most veteran friendly state in the nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 1, 2015, as VIRGINIA VETERAN AND FAMILY SUPPORT DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
