Virginia Science Week


WHEREAS, the Science Museum of Western Virginia, in partnership with Virginia Tech, will host the inaugural Virginia Science Festival October 4-11, 2014, in Blacksburg and Roanoke; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Science Festival brings together the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art, and math, emphasizing the importance of STEAM learning to Virginia’s youth; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, the Science Museum of Western Virginia was one of only 12 recipients nationwide to receive a $10,000 grant from the Science Festival Alliance to help establish the festival; and

WHEREAS, the festival provides an interactive approach to educating Virginians on the wonders of science and technology; and

WHEREAS, community members, scientists, and non-profit and for-profit organizations will provide experiment booths for children and family members; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Science Festival is an opportunity to celebrate the important role of STEAM education, and its critical role in supporting a New Virginia Economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 4-11, 2014, as VIRGINIA SCIENCE WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
