Virginia School Counseling Week


WHEREAS, professional school counselors are certified/licensed educators serving in public and private schools, qualified to help students with their academic, personal and career development needs; and

WHEREAS, school counselors implement comprehensive school counseling programs throughout Virginia’s schools, and these programs are an important part of the educational process as students grow up in an increasingly complex world; and

WHEREAS, school counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal and social growth of their children; and

WHEREAS, school counselors work with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves; and

WHEREAS, school counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement school counseling programs and help students become workforce and college ready; and

WHEREAS, culturally relevant and comprehensive school counseling programs are an integral part of the educational process, and professional school counselors continually evaluate program activities to improve future results for students; and

WHEREAS, through leadership and collaboration, professional school counselors create a supportive learning environment for students and help students become productive and contributing members of the community;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Terence R. McAuliffe, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, do hereby recognize February 3-7, 2014, as VIRGINIA SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens in coordination with the national celebration.
