Virginia Ride for Kids Day 2016


WHEREAS, brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children under the age of 20; and 

WHEREAS, more than 4,600 children younger than 19 will be diagnosed with a brain tumor this year; and

WHEREAS, Ride for Kids is a national series of motorcycle rides that support the work of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation; and

WHEREAS, since 1984, Ride for Kids has grown from one event that raised $4,000 to thirty-seven events nationwide that have raised more than $75 million for pediatric brain tumor research; and

WHEREAS, Virginia motorcyclists, corporate donors, and other have raised more than $1 million for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation since the first Virginia Ride for Kids Day; and

WHEREAS, it is vital that those affected by pediatric brain tumors have access to quality, affordable care, and that research for all forms of childhood cancer continues to be vigorously supported;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize June 5, 2016, as VIRGINIA RIDE FOR KIDS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
