Virginia Public Service Week 2015


WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has a long and proud tradition of producing many talented and devoted public service leaders, including eight U.S. presidents; and

WHEREAS, this tradition of outstanding public service in the Commonwealth is advanced every day by more than 700,000 federal, state, and local public service employees who work diligently to improve the quality of life for Virginia's residents; and

WHEREAS, public service employees dedicate their time, talent, and energy to serving our Commonwealth as teachers, police officers, firefighters, judges, military personnel, health care providers, political leaders, and employees of various federal, state, and local government agencies; and

WHEREAS, more than eighty percent of state employees and a significant number of local and federal public employees in Virginia further contribute to our communities through volunteering and participating in civic service projects; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Public Service Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding work of our public service employees and their role in building a stronger Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 3-9, 2015, as VIRGINIA PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
