Virginia Pharmacists Month


WHEREAS, pharmacists are vital members of healthcare teams and are directly involved in patient care; and

WHEREAS, today’s powerful medications require greater attention to the manner in which they are used by different patient population groups; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 13,000 licensed pharmacists in Virginia, 8,000 of whom occupy the workforce and improve the healthcare outcomes of more than 8 million Virginians; and

WHEREAS, it is important that all users and caregivers who administer prescription and nonprescription medications are knowledgeable about their shared responsibility, in order to prevent unnecessary problems; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Pharmacists Association has declared October as Virginia Pharmacists Month; and

WHEREAS, this year’s theme: “Know Your Medicine – Know Your Pharmacist,” recognizes the important relationship between patient and healthcare provider; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Pharmacists Month is an opportunity to recognize the hard work of pharmacists throughout the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 2015 as VIRGINIA PHARMACISTS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
