Virginia Nurses Week 2016


WHEREAS, there are more than 105,000 dedicated registered nurses in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the registered nursing profession meets the emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; and

WHEREAS, The Virginia Nurses Association promotes effective, safe, and quality healthcare services provided by registered nurses; and

WHEREAS, professional nursing is an indispensable component in the safety and quality of care of hospitalized patients; and

WHEREAS, the demand for registered nursing services will be greater than ever because of the aging population, continuing expansion of life-sustaining technology, and the growth of home health care services; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Nurses Association, along with the American Nurses Association, has declared the week of May 6-12 as National Nurses Week in celebration of the ways registered nurses provide safe and high quality patient care and serve as the backbone of our healthcare system; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 6-12, 2016, as VIRGINIA NURSES WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
