Virginia Letter Carriers Food Drive Day

WHEREAS, letter carriers are often among the first people to recognize hunger within their communities, and each year they work to improve this situation by conducting a national food drive; and

WHEREAS, letter carriers’ daily contact with households in our Commonwealth increases their awareness of Virginians who cannot afford to properly nourish themselves and their families; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 10, 2014, letter carriers throughout Virginia will participate in one of the United States’ largest annual food drives; and

WHEREAS, each year, the Letter Carriers Food Drive successfully provides millions of pounds of food for the needy throughout our Commonwealth and nation; and

WHEREAS, food donated by generous Virginians and transported by letter carriers will be delivered to shelters, churches, and other charitable organizations for distribution to those in need; and

WHEREAS, I am proud to recognize the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Virginia Rural Letter Carriers Association, who coordinate and help execute the Virginia Letter Carriers Food Drive each year;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 10, 2014, as LETTER CARRIERS FOOD DRIVE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
