Virginia Hospital Week


WHEREAS, public and personal health is critical for sustaining and improving the overall health of our Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a hallmark of Virginia’s public health network is the extensive collaboration among its hospitals and health systems to promote health through a variety of services and venues; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s hospitals handle over 3.5 million emergency department visits, 780,000 inpatient admissions, 1.9 million outpatient visits and deliver more than 103,000 babies annually; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Hospital Week celebrates the men and women who are committed to improving the health of their communities through compassionate care of patients in their respective hospitals; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s 107 hospitals employ more than 123,000 individuals, generating more than $34 billion in economic activity; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s hospitals rank among the top three employers in 45 percent of Virginia’s counties and cities; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s hospitals are dedicated to providing quality care, education, and leadership to their residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Hospital Week is an opportunity to thank all the dedicated individuals within our hospitals and health systems for their contributions;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 10-16, 2015, as VIRGINIA HOSPITAL WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
