Virginia College Application Week 2015


WHEREAS, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) in conjunction with the American Application Campaign, has designated the week beginning November 16, 2015, as Virginia College Application Week (VCAW); and

WHEREAS, the first VCAW was held in November 2012, resulting in more than 3,000 college applications from 16 Virginia high schools; and

WHEREAS, VCAW aims to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a post-secondary education; and

WHEREAS, prior to the week, students are encouraged to prepare personal essays, build their resumes and collect information that is necessary for completing a college admission application; and

WHEREAS,  during the week of November 16-20, students from more than 55 of Virginia’s high schools will receive one-on-one assistance from school counselors, admissions officers and volunteers to complete online admission applications, with the goal of submitting at least one application to a two-year or four-year institution; and 

WHEREAS, more than 450 students took advantage of application fee waivers during the first VCAW; and

WHEREAS,  during the week of November 16-20, all Virginia high school seniors are encouraged to apply for admission to the Commonwealth's world-class public and private institutions of higher education;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 16-20, 2015, as VIRGINIA COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
