Virginia Bullying Prevention Month


WHEREAS, bullying occurs in our neighborhoods, playgrounds, schools, and online; and

WHEREAS, each year over two million students report being bullied; and

WHEREAS, targets of bullying are more likely to acquire physical, emotional, and learning problems; and

WHEREAS, children and adults who bully are at greater risk of engaging in more serious violent behaviors; and

WHEREAS, children and adults who witness bullying often feel less secure, more fearful, and intimated; and

WHEREAS, all Virginians must work together to increase awareness about bullying and how to prevent it; and

WHEREAS, National Bullying Prevention Month encourages parents, students, teachers, and administrators to be aware of when bullying occurs and to take timely and appropriate actions to end bullying in their classes and schools;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 2016 as VIRGINIA BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
