United States Army Warrant Officer Corps Day 2016


WHEREAS, Congress established the rank and grade of Warrant Officer on July 9, 1918, concurrent with the establishment of the Army Mine Planter Service; and

WHEREAS, on May 12, 1921, a distinctive insignia was approved; and

WHEREAS, in 1926, women were approved to serve as Warrant Officers; and

WHEREAS, the Warrant Officers in the United States Army, the Virginia National Guard, and Army Reserve units within the Commonwealth of Virginia provide leadership, advise Commanders, support and manage readiness and life cycle management, develop strategic plans, and serve as technical experts and integrators of Army systems; and

WHEREAS, the Warrant Officers of the United States Army have served our Commonwealth and nation with distinction and honor; and

WHEREAS, in 2016, we celebrate the 98th birthday of the United States Army Warrant Officer Corps and the Corps’s commitment, dedication, and service to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize July 9, 2016, as UNITED STATES ARMY WARRANT OFFICER CORPS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
