Teacher Appreciation Week 2016


WHEREAS, a strong and effective school system is essential to the economic prosperity of Virginia and ensures that we continue to make social, technological, and scientific advancements; and

WHEREAS, qualified, dedicated teachers are the foundation of a successful school system and are fundamental to the strength of our Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's teachers help pupils reach their full academic potential and exhibit an unwavering devotion to student success; and

WHEREAS, teachers empower families and communities to support our children and help them achieve; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Lottery, the source of more than $7 billion for public schools since 1999, is partnering with the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia PTA for the inaugural “Thank a Teacher” campaign to encourage Virginians to send thank you notes to teachers across the Commonwealth and reward a teacher with a Virginia vacation; and

WHEREAS, Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity for Virginians to join with teachers around the country to celebrate their critical role in shaping children’s  future;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 2-6, 2016, as TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
