Social Work Month

WHEREAS, the mission of Social work is to enable people to develop their full potential, enrich their lives and prevent dysfunction; and

WHEREAS, through compassion, advocacy and empowerment, Social Work professionals have made significant impact on the lives of the people whom they serve; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers understand and appreciate the worth and dignity of all individuals and families within our communities; and

WHEREAS, passion for human rights and social justice motivates social workers to advocate on behalf of vulnerable populations in order to address the barriers and injustices that they face; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers offer guidance and assistance to thousands of Virginians every day, empowering them to build brighter futures for themselves and their families; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers believe in the strength, courage, and resilience of the human spirit, and strive to help people lead healthier and more productive lives; and

WHEREAS, professional Social Workers provide services to Virginia’s schools, hospitals, community organizations, public and private agencies, higher educational institutions as well as the military and veterans centers;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 2014 as PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
