Sexual Assault Awareness Month

WHEREAS, sexual assault is an intolerable violent crime that impacts our families, homes, communities, schools, and workplaces on a daily basis; and

WHEREAS, Virginians must work together to educate our communities about sexual violence prevention, supporting survivors, and speaking out against harmful attitudes and actions; and

WHEREAS, Virginia continues to collaborate with local, state, and federal stakeholders such as advocacy programs, law enforcement agencies, medical professionals, and educators who take part in conversations and work daily to identify, prevent, and decrease sexual violence; and

WHEREAS, it is critical that those seeking help or services have access to proper care and treatment; and

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity to stand with sexual assault survivors, to celebrate the progress made in combating these crimes, and to recommit to reducing sexual violence in the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 2015 as SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
