Registered Dietitian Day


WHEREAS, a proper diet is the foundation of good health, and registered dietitians positively contribute to the health and well-being of individuals through food and nutrition education; and

WHEREAS, dietitians develop nutrition programs that cause dietary changes, protect public health, and assist in the prevention of disease; and

WHEREAS, dietitians work throughout our community in schools, hospitals, public health clinics, nursing homes, fitness centers, research universities, the food industry, and private practice; and

WHEREAS, more than 2,200 dietitians serve in the Commonwealth and advance the nutritional health of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its members are strong partners in First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe’s efforts to bridge the nutritional divide in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Registered Dietitian Day is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of registered dietitians to the nutritional and dietetic health of Virginians;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 9, 2016, as REGISTERED DIETITIAN DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
