Registered Dietitian Day


WHEREAS, a proper diet is the foundation of good health and Registered Dietitians positively contribute to the health and well-being of individuals through food and nutrition education; and

WHEREAS, dietitians are experts in developing nutrition programs that lead to dietary changes that protect public health and assist in the prevention of disease; and

WHEREAS, dietitians work throughout our community in schools, hospitals, public health clinics, nursing homes, fitness centers, research universities, the food industry, and private practice; and

WHEREAS, more than 2,100 dietitians reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia and serve as important resources in helping to advance the nutritional health of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its members are strong partners in First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe’s efforts to bridge the nutritional divide in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Registered Dietitian Day is an opportunity to recognize the service of registered dietitians to the nutritional and dietetic health of Virginians;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 11, 2015, as REGISTERED DIETITIAN DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
