Records And Information Management Month


WHEREAS, records and information management professionals guarantee the authenticity of records, and are critical to the efficient operation of government; and 

WHEREAS, records and information management professionals are responsible for the systematic control, maintenance, use, and disposition of the most important records of an organization, and play an important role in ensuring organizational effectiveness; and 

WHEREAS, a successful records and information management program adheres to organizational policies and procedures, and incorporates sensible regulations to protect archival records for posterity; and 

WHEREAS, control of records is necessary for the reduction of risk and liability associated with an organization’s activities, as well as for compliance with laws; and 

WHEREAS, technology is increasing the amount of information gathered by organizations, and globalization is expanding the complexity of the information created, making the proper management of information essential; and 

WHEREAS, the Library of Virginia hosts the official archives of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and 

WHEREAS, the Library of Virginia supports localities and state agencies with the efficient and economical management of their records by providing training and education, monitoring the disposal of non-permanent records, and assisting with the transfer of permanent records to the Archives; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 2014 as RECORDS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
