NET Cancer Awareness Month

11/10/2014

WHEREAS, the malignant and metastatic potential of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are often underestimated, leading to misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis in NET cancer patients; and

WHEREAS, NETs often develop into cancer, and when left untreated, can result in serious illness and death; and

WHEREAS, each year an estimated 8,000 individuals in the United States are diagnosed with NET cancer; and

WHEREAS, survival for NET cancer patients can be compromised by fragmented care and a lack of access to treatment; and

WHEREAS, with timely diagnosis and proper treatment, NET cancer patients can have significantly improved outcomes and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, it is vital that those affected by NET cancer have access to quality, affordable care, and that research of all forms continues to be vigorously supported so that individuals are educated on the signs, symptoms, and treatments available to them as NET cancer patients;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 10, 2014, as NET CANCER AWARENESS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
