National Water Safety Month


WHEREAS, Virginians recognize the role that water-related recreation plays in ensuring physical and mental health, and enhancing the quality of life; and              

WHEREAS, comprehensive water safety education and planning is critical to preventing drownings and other water-related recreation accidents; and 

WHEREAS, Virginia’s recreational water industry and other organizations involved in the National Water Safety Month Coalition make important contributions to developing safe swimming facilities, home pools and spas, and aquatic programs and other water activities; and 

WHEREAS, National Water Safety Month recognizes the efforts of the pool, spa, waterpark, and recreation industries to educate the public on pool and spa safety issues and initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Virginia understand the importance of communicating water safety rules and programs to families and individuals of all ages, whether owners of private pools, users of public swimming facilities, or visitors to waterparks; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 2014 as NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
