National Rural Health Day 2015

WHEREAS, the health and safety of rural Virginians is important to the happiness, prosperity and well-being of all of our Commonwealth’s families and communities; and

WHEREAS, primary care practitioners serve as the cornerstone for delivery of health care services in rural communities, and are critical to the viability of rural hospitals; and

WHEREAS, improving rural health care requires innovative and integrative strategies to address both individual health-related behaviors and the many social determinants of health; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia State Office of Rural Health, in the Virginia Department of Health Office of Minority Health and Health Equity, partners with local community organizations to address the unique health care needs of rural citizens; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s State Rural Health Plan contains strategies for improving access to care, the quality of care, the availability of data, and the development of the health care workforce; and

WHEREAS, Rural Health Day is an opportunity to thank all the hardworking individuals bringing health care services to rural communities, and to recognize the need for quality, affordable healthcare throughout the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 19, 2015, as NATIONAL RURAL HEALTH DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
