National Retirement Planning Week 2016


WHEREAS, Americans are living longer lives, leaving many unsure how to make their savings last through their retired years; and

WHEREAS, preparing for retirement has become increasingly difficult due to a new set of challenges, emerging such as changes in employee benefits, greater need for access to technology, and the rising cost of health care; and

WHEREAS, these challenges are overcome by educating Americans about their financial responsibilities; and

WHEREAS, taking the time to regularly review one’s finances and assess financial preparedness for retirement is a critical first step; and

WHEREAS, financial freedom is obtained through proactive retirement planning, staying aware of changing laws, and seeking professional guidance to help meet personal finance goals; and 

WHEREAS, increased planning for one’s retirement with a comprehensive strategy will leave many Americans more financially secure; and

WHEREAS, experts from the National Retirement Planning Coalition, the group that organizes National Retirement Planning Week, urge Virginians to develop and review their retirement plans with the tools and help available at;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 11-15, 2016, as NATIONAL RETIREMENT PLANNING WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
