National Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week


WHEREAS, pulmonary rehabilitation is a form of treatment used by individuals who suffer from pulmonary problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sarcoidosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and for lung surgery candidates, both before and after surgery; and

WHEREAS, pulmonary rehabilitation includes nutrition counseling, patient monitoring, stress management, assessment programs, monitored exercise, and patient education; and 

WHEREAS, it is important to recognize that lifestyle modification in the form of behavioral health services is specifically designed to reduce symptoms and provide enhanced quality of life for pulmonary patients; and

WHEREAS, National Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week is an opportunity to recognize the importance of education and how pulmonary rehabilitation can improve the function and quality of one’s life;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 8-14, 2015, as NATIONAL PULMONARY REHABILITATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
