National Public Works Week


WHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities, and services are of vital importance to sustainable communities, and to the health, safety, and well-being of the people of Virginia; and 

WHEREAS, such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees from state and local government and the private sector; and 

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is thankful to all those who plan, design, build, operate, and maintain the transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential to our people; and 

WHEREAS, it is critical that the people of Virginia are educated about and participate in the shaping of public works programs in their respective communities; and 

WHEREAS, the year 2014 marks the 54th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 18-24, 2014, as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
