National Public Health Week


WHEREAS, public health service involves preventing disease and promoting good health within small communities or entire countries; and

WHEREAS, since 1908, the Virginia Department of Health has provided public health services to the residents and visitors of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Health educates and engages our citizens and community partners to foster a healthier Virginia for ourselves and generations to come; and

WHEREAS, strong public health systems are critical for sustaining and improving community health; and

WHEREAS, a hallmark of Virginia’s public health system is extensive and effective collaboration among a wide range of public and private sector partners, so as to promote health through many venues; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Health is providing leadership so that the Commonwealth becomes the healthiest state in the nation in our generation; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Health’s public health professionals and staff are the guides of this system, helping communities throughout the Commonwealth promote and protect the health of their residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Health is committed to ensuring that Virginia families are healthy from the start, and its collaborative efforts with individuals, communities, providers, and policy makers will help the Commonwealth’s next generation be healthier than the one before;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 6-12, 2015, as NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call upon the citizens of Virginia to understand the value of public health and adopt preventive lifestyle habits.
