National Nutrition Month 2016


WHEREAS, making informed decisions about food choices affects the health, happiness, and longevity of one’s life; and 

WHEREAS, access and education to fresh fruits and vegetables are key factors in creating healthy communities and developing smart eating and physical activity habits; and

WHEREAS, the type, quality, and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health; and

WHEREAS, there is a strong need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to working with stakeholders to help expand access to those in need of healthy meals; and

WHEREAS, all Virginians, especially children and young adults, should have access to nutritious, affordable, and locally-sourced foods that will enable them to learn, grow, and thrive; and

WHEREAS, the First Lady, Dorothy McAuliffe, is leading efforts in the Commonwealth to bridge this nutritional divide so that we may cultivate and sustain economic success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 2016 as NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
