National Health Information Technology Week


WHEREAS, health information technology connects doctors and patients to more complete and accurate health records; and

WHEREAS, information technology and management systems can be used to supply quality jobs, improve health care delivery, enable coordination between providers and patients, improve patient safety, and transform health care for all Virginians; and

WHEREAS, tools like electronic health records and electronic prescriptions help patients and providers make safer, smarter decisions about health care; and

WHEREAS, better technology can also cut costs for providers by reducing paperwork and duplicative tests; and

WHEREAS, it is important to highlight the critical role that secure and efficient information systems provide in improving the delivery of health care in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, National Health Information Technology Week is an opportunity for Virginians to acknowledge the hard work of Virginia’s health information technology community as leaders in transforming the quality of care provided;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 15-19, 2014, as NATIONAL HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
