National Gymnastics Day


WHEREAS, USA Gymnastics and its member clubs across the nation celebrate National Gymnastics Day each year to showcase the many aspects of the sport; and

WHEREAS, gymnastics provides a foundation for building strength, flexibility, and fitness improves self-esteem and goal-setting abilities; and

WHEREAS, National Gymnastics Day seeks to promote the value of physical fitness and proper nutrition, regardless of age, gender, or ability, through the 2014 Fitness Program; and

WHEREAS, on National Gymnastics Day, gymnastics clubs across the United States partner with USA Gymnastics to heighten visibility of the sport and encourage participation; and

WHEREAS, National Gymnastics Day aims to serve the greater community by supporting the mission of Right To Play with outreach and assistance to children in need; and

WHEREAS, Right To Play is an international humanitarian organization that uses sports and play programs to enhance child development in areas of disadvantage; and

WHEREAS, Right To Play and USA Gymnastics engage children and young adults throughout the US in play-based learning and, in turn, encourage health, safety, leadership, and teamwork skills;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 20, 2014, as NATIONAL GYMNASTICS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
