National Entrepreneurs' Day


WHEREAS, the foundation of the new Virginia economy rests on the strength of Virginia’s innovators, creators, and those who are committed to building the businesses of tomorrow; and 

WHEREAS, Virginia is dedicated to fostering a business climate that promotes entrepreneurialism and innovation through educational opportunities and other public and private sector resources; and

WHEREAS, entrepreneurialism and innovation are among the five pillars of Governor McAuliffe’s New Virginia Economy Plan; and

WHEREAS, according to a recent Gallup poll, while 43% of all children in 5th through 12th grade say they want to become entrepreneurs, only 7% say they had an experience to help them achieve this goal; and

WHEREAS, National Entrepreneurs’ Day celebrates the entrepreneurs who built something from nothing; and 

WHEREAS, Governor McAuliffe has committed to supporting Virginia’s entrepreneurs and has launched the Governor’s Business Plan Competition and the Governor’s Council on Youth Entrepreneurship to stimulate the growth of the Commonwealth’s innovation ecosystem; and

WHEREAS, National Entrepreneurs’ Day is an opportunity for Virginians to recognize the important impact entrepreneurial enterprises have in Virginia, and to encourage entrepreneurs to bring their ideas and grow their businesses in Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 18, 2015, as NATIONAL ENTREPRENEURS’ DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
