National Drive Electric Week

WHEREAS, National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) began in 2011 as a way to showcase the benefits of electric and hybrid vehicles via ride-and-drives, film screenings, and other events; and

WHEREAS, electric vehicles are approximately five times cheaper to operate than gas-powered vehicles, which helps put more money in the pockets of Virginia drivers; and

WHEREAS, switching to electric vehicles is one of the biggest steps we can take to reduce Virginia's dependence on imported oil, and reduce dangerous air pollution in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, NDEW has grown from a single-event in 2011 held in 29 locations to a weeklong program held in more than 150 cities in the United States and abroad, including multiple events held by Drive Electric RVA in Virginia's capital city; and

WHEREAS, Drive Electric RVA will participate in National Drive Electric Week again in 2015 as part of its mission to promote electric vehicles as a fun, practical transportation alternative that also helps reduce energy consumption and air pollution;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 12-20, 2015, as NATIONAL DRIVE ELECTRIC WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
