National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week


WHEREAS, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States; and

WHEREAS, individuals who suffer from heart disease can lower their risk of future heart problems by adopting healthier habits and through active treatment; and

WHEREAS, cardiac rehabilitation is a customized outpatient form of treatment, including a program of exercise and education to help individuals recover from a heart attack, other forms of heart disease, or surgery to treat heart disease; and

WHEREAS, education and rehabilitation can help prevent future hospital stays, future heart problems, and catalyze the reduction of risk factors; and

WHEREAS, this year’s theme for National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, “Changing Lives One Heart at a Time,” focuses on the incredible successes made possible by cardiac rehabilitation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize February 14-20, 2016, as NATIONAL CARDIAC REHABILITATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
