National Capital Region Explosives Detection Canine Task Force Day

WHEREAS, explosives detection canines are effective law enforcement and public safety resources in countering terrorism and violent extremism through their keen ability to detect improvised explosive devices; and

WHEREAS, on May 8, 2012, the City of Alexandria Police Department, City of Alexandria Sheriff's Office, Arlington County Fire Marshal Bomb Squad, Arlington County Police Department, and the City of Falls Church Sheriff's Office established  the National Capital Region Explosives Detection Canine Task Force; and

WHEREAS, the National Capital Region Explosives Detection Canine Task Force facilitates the provision of law enforcement and cooperative Explosives Detection Canine/EOD-K-9 support throughout the National Capital Region; and

WHEREAS, explosives detection canine teams serve an important role supporting both protective bomb sweeps as well as responding to calls for service; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize the establishment of the National Capital Region Explosives Detection Canine Task Force as a model of cooperation and mutual commitment to public safety and service to the citizens of our Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize January 15, 2015, as NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION EXPLOSIVES DETECTION CANINE TASK FORCE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
